Say hello to Taylor Phan, another one of our amazing Social Media Interns and an Alpha Phi sister at the University of Texas at Austin (UT)!

Taylor is a freshman and she celebrated her first bid day just a few months ago. She is passionate about helping girls like you find their future sisters, and we are so excited for all the positivity, creativity, and enthusiasm she’s already brought to our team!!

Get to know Taylor, below.

Hey y’all! I’m Taylor!!

I am from Frisco, TX and am majoring in Advertising at the University of Texas at Austin. I decided on UT because I was in love with the culture of the school and the city of Austin! I love the balance between everyone being so hard working but also so willing to go have fun!

What made you want to participate in sorority recruitment at the University of Texas?

I always knew I wanted to participate in sorority recruitment at UT because I wanted to have the opportunity to make some deep friendships and find a sisterhood! I also knew that through my sorority I would make some amazing connections for my future career and life in general. As someone going to a school without any hometown friends, I believed a sorority would be the perfect place for me to find my new home!

What was the best part of bid day?

The best part of bid day was definitely getting to run home to the Alpha Phi house and get to see so many of my friends! One of the Aphi traditions is for the seniors to jump into the fountain in front of the Tower on bid day, and it was so encouraging to see the bonds these older girls had made through Aphi. It made me so excited for all that was to come, and that this was just the start of my future here at UT!

What’s your favorite tradition with your new sisters?

One of my favorite traditions in Aphi is Wednesday Mexi lunch! Every Wednesday there is Mexican lunch at the house and pretty much everyone goes! We also are able to bring friends and guests, and it is just one of my favorite times during the week to catch up with my Aphi friends and eat lunch! Also the food is SO good, our cooks are the best!

What’s the best piece of advice you have for incoming freshmen who plan to rush?

I definitely think the best piece of advice I could give to an incoming freshman (aside from prepping months ahead of time with rec letters like I did) is to just go into sorority rush with an open mind. Every chapter has something different and amazing to offer, and you never know where you will find your future home! Go into every house looking at the positives, and you are going to find an amazing group of sisters ready to welcome you in!
